Kek Lok Si, The Temple of Supreme Bliss
The Kek Lok Si temple is the largest buddhist temple in Penang. It is located in Air Itam. You can reach there by bus 201 or 204. It is quite near to the Penang Hill. So it is good to plan visiting these 2 places in the same day.
Visiting a big temple like this will make people feel peaceful and free from worry.
Penang Hill
Penang Hill is one of the famous tourist attractions. It is 735m(2450ft) above sea level.
There is a direct bus (204) from KOMTAR bus terminal to Penang Hill Railway Station.
Then you can take the funicular train to the top of the hill. I heard there will be an upgrade project for this train system. A new railway system that will take passengers straight up to the hill will be implemented. So no need to change train halfway in the future.
There is a big landmark "Bukit Bendera" on the top of the hill. Penang Hill is originally called as Flagstaff Hill, Bukit Bendera is the Malay name.
You can view the Georgetown from the top of Penang Hill. The view from the hill makes people feel relax.
Public Transport in Penang RAPID PENANG
The main transportation during my 3D2N trip is the public bus. Rapid Penang is one of the leading bus operator in Penang.
The bus is similar to the new single decker bus that can be found in Singapore. The condition of the bus is also well maintained. The website http://www.rapidpg.com.my/ allows us to check all the information regarding the schedule and fares. So it is very useful for visitors especially those budgeted bag packers.
There is one free shuttle bus CAT (Central Area Transit) that can bring you around the central area of Georgetown. I took this HOP ON FREE Bus to familiar this place. It is a cheap way to travel and you won't worry that will lost your way in an unfamilar place.
Accommodation for the 3D2N Penang trip
For this 3D2N penang trip, I will stay at Tune Hotel.
It is located at the center of Georgetown and is about 15 minutes walking distance from KOMTAR Bus Terminal.
I booked the hotel through the website http://www.tunehotels.com/ in advance. From the website, you can select the options such as air-conditioning, wireless Internet access, toiletries and so on. The attractive point is you paid for what you need.
The hotel is clean and comfortable. The location is also quite good. So I think I booked the right hotel for this trip. :P
